The Intelligent Edge: How Asia’s Investment Leaders Are Putting AI to Work

The Press Room, The Fullerton Hotel, 1 Fullerton Square, Singapore 049178

Tuesday 9th June: 8:30am – 10:30am

Join AlphaSense for a private, invitation-only breakfast at The Fullerton Hotel, bringing together 24 senior investment professionals from across Singapore’s asset management community.

This is a closed-door, peer-level discussion designed for the decision-makers shaping how AI is actually applied in investment research and portfolio management. In a focused, high-trust setting, the conversation will move beyond the hype to explore what genuine AI adoption looks like, what it means for the people and processes that drive investment performance, and where the intelligent edge is actually being built in Asian markets

Panel Session:

Human Judgment in the Age of AI: The Role of AI and Where Expertise Still Matters

As AI adoption accelerates across investment research, a more nuanced question is emerging: not whether to use AI, but where it genuinely adds value – and where the decisive advantage still lies with the human expert. Three senior practitioners will draw on real-world experience to explore how AI is being deployed inside investment firms today, what it still cannot do, and how the roles of analyst and portfolio manager are evolving as a result.

Panellists:

Ivan Lew: CEO, Shaw Investment Holdings — A long-term, infrastructure-first investor overseeing ~$5bn AUM across three family offices, and Vice Chair of the Singapore Government’s Global Family Office Advisory Group.

Nirman Chhabra:  Chief Investment Officer, Abiman Investment Singapore — A technically grounded CIO with a background spanning computer science and investment management, and a strong advocate for the human-plus-AI model.

Chao Jen Chen: Head of AI, Managing Director, Fullerton Fund Management — Leading AI adoption across Fullerton’s full investment workflow, from research and due diligence through to portfolio construction and risk monitoring.

Roundtable discussion:

Following the panel, attendees will break into facilitated roundtable discussions, discussing some of the following topics:

  • The analyst of tomorrow: As AI handles more of the research legwork, how is the role of the analyst changing — and what skills will matter most in a hybrid human-AI team?
  • The data question: AI is only as good as what you feed it. How are investment teams sourcing, curating and governing the local and proprietary data that drives meaningful output?
  • Build, buy or subscribe: How are firms deciding what to develop in-house versus adopting off-the-shelf AI tools — and what are the hidden costs of each approach?
  • Accountability in automated workflows: When AI informs or influences an investment decision, who is responsible for the outcome — and how is that shaping the way firms design their processes?
